Introducing Fresno Chiropractor Dr. Dennis Robertson
The relief I felt with my very first chiropractic adjustment changed the direction of my life.
I had severely injured my neck running track at
Like most people, the first thing I did was to make an appointment with a medical doctor. I believe he did the best he could for me. Unfortunately, that consisted of the typical recommendations...ice and heat, and a cocktail of muscle relaxants, pain relievers and anti-inflammatories...which offered some slight temporary relief. But something was wrong! I continued to battle with frequent neck pain and upper back pain, and I was having headaches that were getting worse. People started suggesting I see a chiropractor. After the second or third time seeing my MD, I asked him about chiropractic. I'll never forget his saying, "I don't think that can help you." I was 18 or 19 years old with chronic pain!! Finally, while visiting an uncle in
The relief I felt with that very first adjustment changed my life forever.
I was actually pre-med at UCLA when I had that first chiropractic experience. But, after seeing how ineffective the medical approach was with my problem, I knew I had to learn chiropractic! During my time at
I love that I'm building a family-oriented, wellness practice. While almost everyone first comes to our office seeking relief, they usually stay for maintenance or wellness care. People feel the difference. It just makes sense! Proper maintenance of anything helps it last longer, function better, and have fewer problems. By making our focus to restore and improve function, the results speak for themselves. Patients who maintain their spines have better ranges of motion, strength, flexibility, and mobility, in addition to less pain and fewer symptoms. They feel more energetic and seem to get sick less often. They are less likely to suffer a relapse or re-injury. It is especially gratifying when patients see and feel the difference that chiropractic adjustments can make to the quality of their lives.
On a personal note, I am still a bachelor. I enjoy my life, and I know how fortunate I am that I love what I do for a living. I've enjoyed various martial arts, the rush of snow skiing, and the pleasure and pain (mostly pain so far!) of learning to play golf. In my lifetime, I've picked up and put down many musical instruments. The most recent project being the guitar. The nice thing about starting an instrument later in life is that I have low expectations. I play as frequently or infrequently as I wish. And, since I'm still single, I don't have to torture anyone while I learn!
Personally, I've found that I need to be adjusted every two weeks; although I prefer being adjusted about once a week! Honestly, because of past injuries and present stresses, I've discovered that the more active I am, the more often I need an adjustment. The harder I push my body...my "machine"...the more I need to keep it well tuned!
If you are taking drugs to decrease your pain, be careful! Our bodies communicate with us if we'll just listen. Pain warns of damage or possible damage. Take your hand off the skillet! If I take enough pain killers, I can leave my hand on the skillet all day, but the damage continues. So, fundamentally, I'm not a big fan of taking drugs to mask symptoms. There are also dangerous side effects with pain killers, including damage to your kidneys, liver, stomach, heart, and altered blood chemistry. Pain is a sign that something is wrong. And like all problems, the longer we ignore it the more damage builds, and the more difficult it is to correct.
